What can SR 3D Builder do that LDDU cant

Postby bricklayer » Wed Feb 23, 2011 6:14 pm

Hi,

Good stuff BTW Sergio.
Slowly the site will take off. Thanks for making this freeware.

I started building this week and its great fun.(using LLDU)

I just found out about SR 3D and im intrigued.
The forums on eurobricks says that its a lot better than LDDU.

Can anyone enlighten me what makes it better?

Thanks,

Hi,
first of all, thanks for giving this software a try!!
Here are the most important highlights:
- A by far larger part database including nearly all LEGO part available (not maintained by me, but by www.ldraw.org)
- A better autosnap and auto-orient functionality especially for technical parts
- Easier (IMPO) part positioning thanks to a powerful and variable coordinate system (you can set your coordinate system to a sloped plane and then work on it as if it is perfectly horizontal)
- 3D rotation system (with LDD you have to arrange with 2D)
- advanced tools for aligning hinged connection (using connection solver)
- mirror building (not mirror copying)
- faster and precise hinge rotation even with big models
- real time animation of a large part of techinc elements (look at relative video on my youtube channel)
- Flex tool maybe easier or complex than lDD, depending on the use you need

And now, to be honest, some bad points:
- Image quality is not so good as the latest available in lDD
- User interface maybe a bit rough compared to lDD, but once you get glued you never get back yo LDD
- you have to read the manual to totally understand its potentiality
- maybe some other issue

Hope this will help you in your choose

Sergio
